After initial beta testing of the Dodd E-model in published research (Dodd, 1998), the Go Culture Assessment emerged as a significant assessment for pre-departure assessment applied to international or domestic relocation. It predicts relocation effectiveness in regard to task, relationship development, and cultural adaptation, thus preparing a person for change. The research analyzed scholarly literature and measurement scales to identify the best factors. The GCA resulted from this extensive R&D. Continued testing has been amazing to us. We hoped to find the strengths and weaknesses of relocation candidates to help them better prepare for adapting. We were surprised to undercover 16 highly reliable (.92) and predictive (up to 85%) factors collectively called Cultural Readiness Indicators. The 16 indicators assess a person’s interpersonal and relationship potential, their task readiness, their cultural readiness, and their family readiness. The specific variables or indicators are: innovativeness and risk, social inclusion, communication motivation, task confidence in new cultures, relationship trust, resilience and communication empowerment, transition experience, engaging diversity, marital/family accommodation, marital/family interaction, managing uncertainty, interaction initiation, flexibility, open to information, transition ease, and relocation motivation. The internal reliability across the many tests in some 30 countries is a Cronbach’s alpha of .92, considered very high in statistical measurement theory. When we use multiple regression and multiple determinate analysis to analyze if the set of variables predicts separate measures of success, we have a multiple R-squares ranging from 62% to 85% across eight studies from 30 countries with over 2,000 respondents (Dodd, 2007, 2012; Hooker & Dodd, 2009; Dodd, Lytle, & Winegeart, 2008; J. Dodd, 2010). Additionally, and a very useful team outcome, is that the assessment also produces one's Approach Style Indicators defined through factor analysis techniques as Changer, Adapter, Includer, and Decider.
